I like this resource and wanted to share it with you. This resource was designed by National Geographic. It may appeal to upper primary students who are interested in developing their knowledge of geography or countries. Moreover, this website presents geographical concepts through interactive features and visuals (e.g zooming in and out of maps, representing key geographical concepts through different types of maps etc). These aspects of the website support student understanding so that they can engage in higher order thinking. This source is by no means exhaustive. Specifically, I would use this interactive tool to help students immerse themselves in geography and to begin to ask questions about the world around them. These questions could include:
- What is a a map?
- What information does a map show?
- Do different types of maps show different information?
- What is Longitude and Latitude, why are they important aspects of a map?
- How are different countries different or similar to the country I live in?
- How might geography influence how people live their lives etc?
As always, when using internet sites ensure that your computer has appropriate internet protection. I hope that this blog post has been somewhat useful.
